The old guys in the sweaters are wearing sunglasses because they're blind. Their sons (assuming they are related) are wearing sunglasses because they're douchebags trying to be cool.
Those really big sunglasses are the ones they give you when you get laser eye surgery.... maybe they all just had eye surgery and there was some sort of package deal - If you have eye surgery you get a free family portrait.
