The first shot she looks so much like the young boy who played Oliver Twist in the film musical Oliver. A dead ringer.

Anyone else not realise she was a girl until photo #4?

Another little cutie.

the "tomboy" look was all the rage in the 70s... think Jodie Foster and Kristy McNichol

Nothing wrong with androgyny. Keeps our minds sharp.

Nothing wrong with a little androgyny. It keeps our minds sharp. I think she was gorgeous girl or boy.

Are you sure that second picture isn't her brother? Yikes.

she looks most like a girl in the navy sweatshirt with the monogram on it.

I though she was a boy till photo # four, and then propmtly freaked out.

First pic it's a girl... kind of. Second it's her brother. Third is again a girl "my parents wanted a boy and my mom doesn't enjoy washing my hair". Fourth pic, the girl started to ask "mom, daddy, why do i never wear skirts?"

Actually I'm an only child and my parents did want a girl.

One of the pix I sent in was omitted. In the very first one, I did have long hair and looked very girlie. But my mother relented in 2nd grade and let me cut it short as I demanded.

Then I just got awkward.

We're definitely looking at a future "Chaz" Bono

J Dub, definitely not. I'm nearly 40 and still a female... and I'm straight, married and a mom.

I love how her mouth slowly opens more & more to a smile as you scroll to each pic, then BAM stinkface! XD

Wow----at first it's very much "Michelle...or Mitchell?" She turned out great, though!

She was cute, and every girl in my class back in the late 70's had the same look, so I don't see the need to make fun of her.

What I did want to point out however, is the awkwardness that existed when her parents decided "M.A.D." weren't a bad set of initials to have!

We had to abandon naming our son after my dad and my father in law becase his name would have been Anthony Steven and our last name begins with "S". You need to watch those things, or your child may be tormented.

I don't even get what this one is doing on here -- it's a perfectly normal-looking little girl. No crazy teeth, no mullet, no laser-light shows on the backdrop, no progression of hideous eyewear or cowboy hats. She looks like most of the kids I was in school with.

The only picture I think is funny is the last one, in which she seems to be in pain. I think she's totally stylin' in all the other pics, and I would totally dress like that now, and feel hip. And I'm a lady.

Picture #2: lumberjack child Donald Trump

I'm being totally honest: I so want a monogrammed sweater like she has.

She looks like she's going to break into tears!

To Anonymous who posted about my old initials M.A.D.... MAD didn't bug me but the mDa on monogrammed things got me called the 'muscular dystrophy' kid, especially after calling in to the telethon and challenging kid others to give $5... that was all the rage them.

OH my gosh! I thought that was a little boy! I feel so bad now!

Michelle... or Pat?

Cute! Reminded me of Drew Barrymore aswell. From the first picture onward I thought she was a girl, after a few pictures it was obvious. Doesn´t matter anyways, since many kids at that age look kinda androgynous. Well, at least they did back then, nowadays gender seems too advertised from a very young age, which is a shame if you ask me.
