I'm guessing they're actually sisters, and not the progressive early 80's lesbian couple I originally thought they were. Parents, please do not rhyme your children's names.
Meet two-thirds of the famous Nielsen triplets from Minneapolis, the first successfully separated conjoined triplets. Charlene's still a bit clingy, but Marlene (not pictured) has an apartment of her own in Edina, where she lives with three cats.
Boy, these girls look so much like a distant relative of mine that stole from grandma and ended up a homeless, gambling addicted, meth-head. I had to fight off the urge to grab my purse to protect it when I viewed this portrait.
Does anyone remember the show "Designing Women"? Jean Smart's character had all those sisters with names like Charlene, Marlene, Darlene, Carlene? Ok, I just read that and realized what am 80's sitcom nerd I sound like. Whatever - I love Delta Burke; I can't help it.
They're obviously identical twins. Fairly lame their folks would not up for sep photos. Probably lead to an identity crisis, now they live in a 2 bedroom apartment with matching ferrets and untrimmed snatch hair and screaming matches.
Rhyming names for identical twins should be a crime...even more so than allowing your kids in public with hair like that.
I went to elementary school with twins named "Sonja and Tonja" and, I kid you not, an "Elvis and Kelvis". Yes, I said Kelvis. I couldn't possibly make this shit up.
I live next door to the Twins from Spaceballs (1987), the ones pictured here are NOT the ones in Spaceballs FYI. The Doublemint Twins from the movie are Denise and Dian Gallup. I talk to them nearly every day and have also had the pleasure of speaking with Rick Moranis' agent. I am constructing a small website for them as we speak http://sites.google.com/site/thegalluptwinsproject/

hahhahahahha!!
oh. darlene and charlene.
I just think it is sad that their parents were too cheap to let them get their own class pictures... at least they have different do's
Cabbage Patch kids with bad wigs?

Alas, Disney decided not to greenlight the Parent Trap spinoff project, so Renee Zellwegger had to wait a few more years for her chance at stardom.
Cue the banjos!
I reallylike how they created their individual looks. One embraced the feather bangs, the other a spiral perm.

Seriously, does no one remember the "I'm Charlene," "I'm Darlene" joke from Spaceballs?!

...Why not both?

Now let's see them posing with their other two sisters, Barlene and Earlene.
I love them, best of '91...

Wow! A mother and a daughter I suppose... very similar! Almost like the same person 20 years later ;))
"i'm larry. this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl"
